Michael Wells, MD

Dr. Wells is Board-Certified in Family Practice.  He is a native of Freeport, IL and now lives in Galena with his wife and three children. Dr. Wells obtained his medical degree in 1998 from the University of Illinois School of Medicine.  He was in the first full class of the Rural Medical Education program (RMED) at the Rockford campus.  This program helps prepare students to become primary care providers in a rural area.  In 2001, he finished his residency with the University of Colorado at the Swedish Medical Center near Denver.  After residency, Dr. Wells worked at Conifer Medical Center, an eight physician practice about an hour into the mountains from Denver.  During this time, he was a clinical instructor for the University of Colorado Department of Medicine.  After their first child was born, Dr. Wells and his wife decided to move back to Illinois to be closer to their families.

In 2007, Dr. Wells accepted a position with the newly established Midwest Health Clinic, and was appointed to the faculty of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine.  This position allows him to continue teaching medical students as he works with the RMED program.  Dr. Wells strongly believes in patient education to provide a cooperative, comprehensive approach to preventative and continuing health care.
